Falling Leaves is an original quilt pattern for a table runner measuring 16” x 50” and six placemats measuring 12" x 17". Rolled-back folded bias edges (sometimes called Cathedral Windows curves) give these leaves curves and apparent movement as they float above the background and overflow into the border, but there is no curved piecing. Avoid directional prints for the leaf and background fabrics because the fabrics will be cut and sewn on various angles. 40” usable width is used in fabric calculations.
If you would like scrappy leaves, replace maple fabric requirement with a 9” x 10” fabric scrap for each leaf and oak fabric requirement with a 12" x 12" square for each leaf. Three colour options are also outlined for the placemats.
