Long Arm Repair & Service
At Cottage Quilting & Sewing Machine Destination, we believe that regular maintenance and upkeep will ensure years of uninterrupted quilting. Beautiful stitches are the result of many different functions all working perfectly together — and our expert technicians are here to keep your long arm running at its best.
We service long arm machines across the Okanagan Valley and throughout BC, including on-site visits and drop-off service at our Kelowna location.
Long Arm Maintenance Tips
- Oil regularly: Machines made of iron, steel, and aluminum require oil to keep running smoothly. Gammill machines should be oiled every 8–10 hours or after a full day's use. Oiling at the end of the day allows the oil to penetrate overnight so your machine is always ready to quilt.
- Change needles often: Replace your needle every 1–2 quilts to ensure the needle and hook work together for the best possible stitch. Some needles last longer, but regular changes are best practice.
- Schedule regular service: Recommended every 500 quilts or 5 years — whichever comes first. Regular servicing minimizes downtime and keeps your machine performing at its peak.
- Emergency service available: We carry most parts in stock and can have special parts ordered within 2–3 business days. Note: not every situation qualifies as an emergency.
-
Keep a maintenance kit on hand: Stock these low-cost parts to minimize downtime:
- Extra bobbin case
- Red and black handle bar buttons
- Check spring assembly
- Cone springs
- Timing device
