Welcome to the Improv Quilt Class (12 Hours).
This will be hosted in THREE sessions: When you register with class 1 you will be enrolled in all three classes.
Dates: January 2027 - Saturdays Jan 16, 23, 30
10am-2pm
This class gently moves the participants from wonky piecing with rulers and straight lines through ruler free cutting to curved piecing. There will be opportunity between classes to practice what you have learned. Phyllis Janzen, class instructor will be available on Sew Days on Mondays at Cottage Quilting for support. At the end of the course, you will have enough improv pieces for your own improv medallion quilt. Participants should have basic sewing skills and have their own sewing machine with extension table.
What you will Learn:
Class one
We will start with Wonky piecing cutting straight lines with rulers and move to ruler less cutting. There will be multiple “blocks” to learn with handouts. For example, we will make wonky stars and slab blocks. There will be some blocks that require you to stack and cut so be prepared with a sharp blade in your rotary cutter. There will be discussion of your own improv quilt. Homework is to prepare more blocks of your own choosing in your own colours.
Class Two
We will move into curved piecing. From gentle curves to more complex and advanced curves including the wagon wheel from the sample quilt. We will discuss the progress on your quilt blocks. Homework again to prepare more blocks of your own choosing in your own colours for your improv quilt.
Class three
We will assemble your quilts.
